Study Support & Scholarships

In Kibera, only 40% of children complete their primary and secondary education due to socio-economic challenges. Additionally, most scholarships are awarded to top performers, leaving many others behind.

One participant is quoted saying:

“When I am at Project Elimu, I am always happy because it is open for every child to join.”

About this program

The Elimu Scholarship program seeks to change this by supporting children—especially girls—who need it most. Factors like economic status, early marriages, and the school environment contribute to a 46.6% dropout rate among girls in Kenya. (Transition in education: Perspectives on Girls' drop-out rates in secondary schools in Kenya, University of Nairobi, 2022.) We offer more than just scholarships. We provide catch-up classes, field trips, school fees, and even food support, so children can thrive. Currently, 122 primary students, 24 high schoolers, and 10 college students benefit from our program.

"Without this support, my daughter would not be in school. She is the firstborn, and the financial help from Project Elimu gives us hope for a brighter future." – Beneficiary parent

We're committed to tailored support for every child’s educational needs, ensuring they don’t just survive but succeed. Catch-up classes significantly contribute to closing literacy gaps, offering a viable strategy for students and schools seeking to bolster their literacy enhancement programs (Catch-up Programs and Their Impact, 2024)

"Project Elimu has been very supportive of my academics. If it wasn't for their help, I would have been married with kids by now, not being able to pursue my own dreams." – Leah, Beneficiary

We believe in giving every child the chance to catch up, learn, and feel inspired through innovative after school teaching programs. With skilled tutors and creative approaches, we engage children in ways that traditional schooling often fails, teaching critical thinking, curiosity, and the importance of asking questions.

"Tuition classes at Project Elimu have helped me make the most of my time during the holidays. I've met friends who inspire me to do better in school." – Jane, Beneficiary

We don’t just focus on the child—we consider the entire family. We assess their ability to keep the child in school, and when needed, we step in to support both the child and the family. Our goal isn’t just short-term solutions but long-term empowerment, ensuring families can sustain their children's education with our help. In short, we’re not only helping children catch up academically, but we’re empowering families to thrive together. Together, we can give children the tools to change their future. Join us in making this dream a reality.
